Not only were we pretty active, we were also pretty social this weekend. Our friends the Dolls had us over for a very fun cookout on Sunday night. Despite the day’s bike ride, the kids hung in there for a late evening and had a great time playing with Ryland and Beckton. Read the rest of this entry »
We made the most of our three-day weekend. Now if we only had another day or two to recover from it! We started with a drizzly Saturday morning. But the forecast said the sailing would be perfect by afternoon, so we packed up and headed to Lake Gaston. And we’re so glad we did! Read the rest of this entry »
Lately Travis has been obsessed with speed. Whether we’re walking to and from Hallie’s school or we’re in the car, he’ll announce “That car was driving WAY too fast. Mommy, wasn’t that car driving way too fast?” Or we’ll be going downhill and he’ll say, “We’re going faster because we’re going downhill but when you go downhill you can coast and then you can use your brakes to keep from going too fast.” Read the rest of this entry »
Travis has developed a crush. He’s infatuated with “Sarah,” the little sister in The Polar Express. We’ve been reading that book almost daily (I know, not seasonally appropriate, but it’s popular with both kids). After several readings Travis started asking me to stop on the next-to-the-last page. “Sarah’s really pretty!” he announced. Ever since, he wants to keep the book and study that page after we’re done reading it. I wonder if he’ll remember his crush the next time we get this out of the library. If this keeps up, we may have to buy it.
In the last month or so, we’ve seen more tantrums or trouble dealing with things from Hallie than we’d seen for quite a while. It was reminiscent of the early months of school, though not nearly as bad. I’m not sure what’s changed. Maybe she’s just tired of school and ready for a break. She doesn’t have too long to wait! We tried out a new babysitter last night. I’d posted listings at two local colleges and gotten a dozen or more responses. One in particular stood out, and after checking her references I arranged for her to come over last night. I’d talked with the kids about it a lot and mostly they didn’t seem all that interested. A few weeks ago I was asking Hallie who from her class she wanted to invite to her birthday party. She started the list with “Hallie” and continued to name several kids she often plays with. But she didn’t mention Evelyn. Read the rest of this entry »
Travis and I went on another bike ride yesterday, this time with his buddy Beckton and Beckton’s mom, Mollie. The boys enjoyed waving at each other as we jockeyed back and forth on the trail-a-bikes. We had a pretty long ride but ended up having to high-tail it home both to get back in time to get “the big kids” and to keep Beckton awake. Read the rest of this entry »
We had another great family bike ride today! The kids were both grumps much of the morning, I’m guessing because of two short nights of sleep in a row. But once we hit the road, all was well. A section of trail that had been closed through last weekend is now open. This gave us a much longer stretch to ride, and we covered a lot of new ground. I’m getting much more confident, and perhaps a bit stronger, with the the trail-a-bike. And when Hallie kicks in her “turbo boost,†we can really cover some ground.
We had to turn back today to make it to an afternoon birthday party on time. But we’re looking forward to next weekend and perhaps making it all the way to and under the Beltline. We never know quite how much ground we’re covering but it gets farther each time!
We had quite a busy weekend around here! We’d been wanting to have a housewarming party and realized if we didn’t have it this weekend it would probably be sometime in July or August. So, we went full-steam ahead. We’d done quite a bit of settling in and this was a good impetus to get a few more things on the walls, etc. It’s hard to believe we’ve just been here seven weeks. There are still plenty of little things we’d like to do but I think they’ll wait a while! Read the rest of this entry »
