The kids were squabbling a bit the other night when Kelly gave them a lecture about not being tattletales.
Soon another squabble takes place. Travis marches into the kitchen and interrupts us.
“Mommy, Hallie’s being a tattletale!,” he says.
Times like this show one the importance of stifling a laugh!
Travis knows things no one else in the world knows. For example, he knows that the bed bugs, as in “don’t let the bed bugs bite,” are actually big mosquitoes that are coming into your room to gobble you up at night and they aren’t really bugs that are in your bed at all and you don’t want to let them gobble you up at night so when you’re going to bed you say “don’t let the bed bugs bite” to keep the giant mosquitoes from biting you. We’ve been working with the kids on all different types of manners. One in particular is “no interrupting.” I’ve had a habit of checking out of whatever conversation Mark and I might be having to attend to something the kids say, even if they’ve interrupted us. So, I’m working on this on my end and pushing them to be better on theirs. But in one instance, Hallie gets to ignore the “no interrupting rule.” Read the rest of this entry »
Since Travis was pretty little I’ve been in the habit of singing songs to him after his stories and after we turn out the light. I’d generally pick some songs, or he’d make some requests. Lately he’s put a different spin on things. Read the rest of this entry »
Travis has gotten interested in riding his bike again. We’ve got the training wheels off and the “balance buddy” on. The balance buddy, a long handle that attaches to his rear wheel, is a great invention. It lets me keep him from falling or correct his balance and run along with him from a much more comfortable position. Read the rest of this entry »
Hallie and Evelyn continue to be the best of buddies this year. In fact, when we were writing out Hallie’s family tree for her family module, Hallie said, “I feel like I want to add Evelyn on there too. She just feels like she’s my sister.” But Evelyn was out two days this week with a cold, and Hallie was a little lost. Read the rest of this entry »
OK, so pizza isn’t the healthiest food in the world. But it’s so darn easy — you toss one in the oven, you pick up the phone to order one, you go out with friends for a festive evening, you even make one yourself. And with so many toppings, everyone can be happy. Right? Read the rest of this entry »
Hallie’s tooth finally came out two weeks ago. I just keep forgetting to post about it! It was so loose she could bend it past horizontal. She could cover it completely with her lower lip and all you could see was the gap.
Miss Renee, a Kindergarten assistant teacher, pulled Hallie’s first tooth for her. I kept teasing Hallie that I was going to email Miss Renee and have her meet us outside Conn one morning. Well, last Monday we saw Miss Renee in the hall as she was walking her class to the cafeteria. She took one look at Hallie’s tooth and said, “Wait right there! I’ll be back.”
She came right back. Hallie said she didn’t want her to pull it so Miss Renee agreed she’d just wiggle it. Well, one wiggle/push was all it took. Hallie’s tooth shot across the hall and we all worked together to find the tiny thing. The grown-up tooth was already halfway in, so she won’t have a gap there for very long. Now she says her top two are getting loose, though I can’t really feel that yet.
The tooth fairy brought $2 and a bag of beads, which delighted Hallie. It may be a little while before she’ll be back for her next visit.
I live for those little backward glances Hallie sometimes gives me as she trudges up the sidewalk to the school door. Stuff like that melts a Daddy’s heart.
The Panthers won their second game last Friday. Hallie remains really enthusiastic about it all. She played defense most of the time, including goalie for a bit (where she saw no activity), and got in a little midfield action too. She still says she likes defense best.
Mark took well over 100 pictures, some of them really great. He caught a lot of Hallie and her teammates goofing off with each other, some good tongue-out-in-concentration action shots, and several that capture Hallie just full-out enjoying herself. It will be hard choosing which ones to put in an album!
