Hallie and Travis

The Story of Two Great Kids

Travis has been putting the pieces of reading together for quite some time. He’s been making books for ages and recently has been asking many more questions about how to spell certain words. It’s clear he’s been thinking about reading and spelling a lot. He’ll pipe up with questions out of the blue, like on the way to school last week: “Do you spell ‘burp’ b-u-r-p?”

But this weekend he made a big breakthrough. Mark took the kids to the library yesterday and T came home with a book in the “read and play” series. He very happily and confidently read the whole thing to me. I thought this was great, but I assumed he’d kind of memorized the text while reading it with Mark. Today I got four more books in the same series. And boy was I delighted (though not so delighted as Travis!) to hear him cruise through all of those on his own. Read the rest of this entry »

This is what Hallie wrote when I asked her to make holiday cards for her teachers.

Christmastime
by Hallie Turner

It’s Christmastime
With wreaths on the doors
It’s cheerful time,
With holly galore
Carolers on sidewalks
Singing songs so sweet
With candles in the windows
And frost on their feet
Christmastime is here!
Christmastime is here!
Christmas is here with
A happy new year!
