There are several songs from The Sound of Music in my limited repertoire, so the kids have heard them quite a bit. When I explained to Hallie they all came from the same movie, she was really interested. I got it from NetFlix and it had been sitting around for a while until the attack of the evil stomach bug. It came in handy when Hallie spent most of Monday on the couch.
I wasn’t sure how engaged by the story she’d be, but she loved it. I was able to watch much of it with her, offering explanations where needed, and she watched all nearly 3 hours straight through. I alternated watching with Hallie and playing with T, who wasn’t that engaged by the movie except for the big musical numbers (esp. the puppet show).
Travis did stick around for most of the ending. It was amusing, but I guess not too surprising, that of the whole movie Travis was most interested in the auto mechanics. He watched the scene where the nuns remove parts from the Nazis’ cars. While Hallie was asking questions about the Nazis and the characters and their escape, Travis was grilling me on what were those parts, how did the nuns get them out, how were they going to get put back, and who was going to fix the cars so they could move again. Seems like they each got something out of the movie after all!
