Hallie and Travis

The Story of Two Great Kids

I love that both Hallie and Travis have so many interests. I really want to foster as many of them as possible. And I want them to have plenty of time for school work and music practice. And I want them to have plenty of down time. And I want them to not feel stressed or over-committed. And I want me to have plenty of down time and not feel stressed or over-committed. And I want them to learn to follow through on things they start. And I none of us to have to be in two or three places at the same time. Anyone else familiar with this dilemma?

At last count, I think Hallie listed about 13 extracurricular activities she’d like to be involved in. They included soccer, music, ice skating, gymnastics, horseback riding, and basketball. With the exception of music, these are all things she’s tried and wants to do again. She’s currently on a basketball team, which will soon have two weeks of overlap with her CASL soccer team. CASL soccer involves travel to distant (way N. Raleigh) fields. Ugh. Hallie’s not a soccer star, but she enjoys playing and really wanted a chance to play on a more organized team than her Salvation Army experiences. She’s also been accepted by a violin teacher and is super-excited about starting that. I’m delighted for her, but selfishly not eager to add another set of practicing to monitor.

Travis is doing basketball and piano and is signed up for t-ball in the spring. His schedule is a bit tamer, and his activities closer to home. I’m guessing we’ll find a way to juggle everything. This will be the first time both kids will be doing two activities at the same time. We’ll see how it goes and adjust as needed. I have a feeling things won’t get calmer for a very, very long time.
